PostSubject: Group Build #4: Nemesis Build   Mon Feb 20 2017, 07:04

The theme for Mission #4 focused on adversaries that faced each other during a time of war.  As with our previous group builds, surprises would abound as our builders stretched their kit building skills once more.

Ken led us off with a surprising duo.  His beautiful Airfix 1/72 Short Sunderland "porcupine" flying boat was quite impressive to see:

During WWII the Sunderland was tasked with protecting the Atlantic sea lanes from it's primary nemesis; the NAZI U-boats.  Of course the U-boats were able to defend themselves from their airborne adversaries with the help of the quad-mounted 2 cm Flak 38 AA guns they carried:

Mike's kit building prowess was in full display as he cranked out two complete nemesis duos.  His first build was a desert themed duo with a SM-79 vs. a Spitfire:

Then to up the ante a bit, Mike cranked out this impressive Night Fight duo: the Handley Page Hampden vs. the Dornier 217 "Flying Pencil" night fighter:

New member Tom joined in and immediately showed us what a talented kit builder he is.  His entry took us to the war in Korea with a Monogran 1/48 Corsair F4-B kit from the 1970's and a Tamiya 1/35 Russian built T-34/85:

Another night themed nemesis duo followed from pmmaker.  For his build he choose a rather obscure German night fighter - the Focke-Wolf Ta.154.  Its adversary was none other than the famous Avro Lancaster, both in 1/72nd scale:

Quite an interesting group of builds from some talented builders.
