The Special Hobby kits I have done have been enjoyable builds owing to the clear instructions and additional resin detailing parts. This is one of their earlier kits and is of the Bell XP-77 experimental fighter.

The XP-77 was a design attempt by Bell to use non-strategic materials in its construction. The aircraft was made mostly of wood and was to be a tiny lightweight point interceptor armed with two .50 caliber machine guns and one 20 mm cannon. It was designed for an engine which had a supercharger. Unfortunately that engine had developmental delays and a non-supercharged engine was used in its place. The aircraft never came close to what Bell had in mind so the project was cancelled after only two were built.

The Special Hobby 1/72 kit features a resin cockpit and engine. Everything else is molded plastic which was clean and needed little detail work. The kit contains markings for either of the two models that were built (my model is of the version which had crashed and was scrapped). It is a very easy build and painting is a breeze (as most of it is in aluminum silver). The box for the model is huge in comparison to the finished model. This model, btw, needs weight in the nose or it will be a tail sitter.

It is a nice a different WWII design to add to a collection.

Nice interesting build. Another Bell aircraft with tricycle landing gear.

I have a couple Special Hobby kits in my stash, but I am waiting for my patience to build up before tackling them.

I like the size comparison picture with the ME.

Tom

Thanks guys. Very Happy  Czech Model does make this kit in 1/48 too and I think it would be really nice in that scale.
