Another oldie from Airfix, recently re-released with new box art and decals. I couldn't resist the opportunity to do an airliner with red wings Wink  Everything you'd expect from a kit of this vintage – raised panel lines, simplified detail, dubious fit. The moulds appeared to have been cleaned up though as the surface was blemish free and there was virtually no flash.

It was re-scribed and I added a floor/bulkheads inside so I could display the doors open. The windows were typically thick so I used clear resin to make them flush with the fuselage.

Sharp looking build. Nice paint scheme too! What does "BEA" stand for?

Thanks Tom. It stands for 'British European Airways'. They later merged with BOAC to form British Airways.

I remember that period so well, despite my (then), young age.

In 1976, my mate Haydn dragged me down to Heathrow for a full entire day.

I even took (crummy but historical), shots of the Tridents & 747's
(in transitional schemes).

One 747 I 'shot' still had the B.O.A.C undersides & Gold "speedbird" motif !
(yet the upper-half was all in the then 'new' British Airways & Red-U.Jk fin)

Shame the camera I used was an old '127' Kodak 'Brownie'
(gifted by my Paternal-Nan farao )

Even saw an old Stratocruiser (N.W.-Orient) over my house a few years before.

Mike, that kit of yours is sharp (as is all your stuff).

With hindsight, I regret not picking one up during my youth...
I loved Vanguards, as I heard & saw them often.
(All my Airliner sightings were over my house & neighbouring playing-fields)

Occasionally we'd get the odd Argosy in Middle-East camo', which made a change.

Ironically, I've only just clapped-eyes on the "re-released" kit.
Saw it at 'Southern-Expo', the large/major IPMS show in London.

Trouble is, I was too busy snapping-up other bargains, so had to pass.

Nice to know it's back out there tho', in the Public domain again.
(in time, I'll pick one up)
