A typical mid-80s Airfix kit: light grey plastic, raised panel lines and simplified detail. A new cockpit interior was scratch built, panel lines re-scribed and the LEXs/platypus nose modified to represent a Bahrain AF aircraft. I also scratch built the ACMI pod and Sidewinder, and added an Aeroparts PE ladder. It's not the most accurate F-5E out there – HobbyBoss's is apparently a much better kit – but I enjoyed building it. I was never happy with my fitting of the windscreen though.

As they say in Canada, "beauty, ehh?" One of my favorite jet types in a obscure scheme. Nice!

I have a couple F-5 kits to assemble. I am doing one in a plain USAF silver scheme. Mine are some really cheap kits I found at a local food store for $1 each...I think they are "Airficks" or something like that..lol.

Obscure is right! I've never seen anything flying RBAF colors. Very cool build and scheme.

Thanks guys. Bahrain now flies F-16s (in a similar all-grey scheme) which I plan on building one day.

Look forward to seeing your F-5 builds, Tom. Good stuff

Love the kit and the build! As has been noted, a very unusual scheme. I especially like the extra effort to bring out the fine panel lines.

Back in my "Top Gun" days I built a few of these in "aggressor" schemes. Alas, in the great dumpster purge of 1989, they all met an inglorious end and are no more. Sad

Appreciate you sharing this one with us Migrant - it's a great model!

The ones I have are "Starfix" models. Not bad, just very basic. The original decal sheets are printed in reverse. Kind of weird. I gave them the Krylon treatment already. I have enough after market decals just in case.

My brother is an avionics engineer and he worked on F-5s for Switzerland at one time. I think they actually make a diecast model of the plane...
