PostSubject: Century Wings A-6e Intruder   Thu Apr 06 2017, 11:25

I picked up a cheap but incomplete CW Intruder. It was basically brand new, but missing the box cover which contained the missiles and drop tanks.

I ordered a couple aftermarket kits for Shrike missiles and Mk82 Snake Eye bombs and will fill out the armament load with them.

It is a nice plane with crew and optional landing gear plus display base, but the complete examples go for well over $150. Kind of steep. I paid $60 for this one...

That's a pretty good deal on that Tom. CW really makes an awesome model of the A-6 don't they? I have two (and recently got one from HM - which is nice, but I think CW still has the edge).

Have you thought about contacting CW and asking if you can purchase a set of ordnance for it (rather than aftermarket)? I ask as I recently opened an SR-71 model for the first time and found that both pilot figures had melted into mush. I emailed CW and they were very quick to respond and send me replacements.

Yes, they really do make a great version of this plane. I never thought of contacting the company. I will try that. It seems I never had success in the past dealing with some of the manufacturers, as per lost/missing parts.

I will give them a try. I did find the proper ordnance kits on eBay, but they lack the pylons for mounting them to the plane.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Tom

I have contacted CW with no luck so far. I will try a couple more times and then I may have to kitbash some pylons and armaments for this bird. I picked up a second Intruder with the weapons, so I have a reference to work with now...

Tom - try The Flying Mule, they are the US importer and agent for Century Wings.

they might have some parts they can sell / give you from damaged or unsaleable stock Wink

I have a few CW A-6's and love 'em Cool

Well, as I sat down to email Flying Mule, I checked my mailbox and found a reply from CW. They apologized for the delayed response and asked if the missile set from a later issue plane would be acceptable. It was and I hope to hear from them again soon about obtaining the set.

The sets are the same but the pylon colors might be different. I can repaint them...no problem.

It sounds like CW wants to help out, even though this version of the A-6 is 7 years old. Nice!

I will try Flying Mule incase I don't hear back from CW.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

As a follow up, I made sure to include my mailing address with my correspondence with the fellow at Century Wings. They offered to send a complete set of missiles, bombs and tanks for my Intruder, stipulating that they normally do not offer this service and that it very unusual for them to supply parts in this manner.

Anyway, a few days later, a package arrived in the mail. It contained the tray of parts I needed, including the special tank for placing the plane on the display stand. No charge!

Well, here it is, in all her complete glory. Thanks Century Wings.

Great to hear a good customer service story, glad you're able to display a complete model. I'm not a die cast collector but that's a very attractive model, and infinitely nicer than the Hasegawa kit I built as a teenager – finished in brush-painted gloss household paints Shocked

I was a builder before I was a collector, but the diecast calls out to me. Probably the "instant gratification" thing. Honestly, no matter how much I build and learn new techniques, my builds just don't match up to the quality paintwork and fit the factory builds can give me. I don't mind. I still build, obviously, but I am never totally satisfied with my work.

I am willing to bet your "teenage" Intruder was better than anything I can build now! Lol...
