I started this Starfix F-5E a couple days ago. The kit cost me $1.06 and I found it in the bargain section of my local grocery store, along with a Spitfire and Me-109.

The kit is actually pretty decent. Simple with raised panel lines, but enough detail to make it interesting. It is about 90% complete, but needs a bit more filling and sanding in spots. I will be painting it before I install the missiles and landing gear...

Finished pics to follow soon!

Tom

That looks a pretty nice kit, Tom, and looks like you're making rapid progress. If you can ever lay your hands on an Esci/AMT F-5A or B, it's worth picking up. They go for cheap prices but are really nice and have recessed panel lines.

Yes, this one has raised lines. I can dry brush it to get them to stand out. I will look for the Esci kit, even though I have two more of these! I may do one in camo colors if they were painted that way....

Busy week, so progress is slow. I just finished masking the canopy and painting the aft portion of the engines. So far I have painted the plane and applied the original decals. They were difficult to work with. They stayed in one piece for the most part, but they didn't sit well. After copious amounts of decal set, they settled down. They are actually poor graphics, but I was determined to use the kit supplied decals.

Next will be the painting and installing of the bombs and missiles and painting and installing the canopy. I have a few of these kits, so I want to try different schemes and techniques on each one, as I progress through them.

Looking good there Tom.

It's a fun plane that was used by a lot of different countries. One can buy any number of kits of the F-5A and the F-5E for reasonable prices and build only this plane for years.

I look forward to seeing the rest. Maybe or next group build should be centered around a single plane - this one would be an interesting one to tackle.

Thanks, guys. I have the plane fairly finished. I have yet to apply some light weathering to bring out the raised panel lines. It looks a bit flat right now...

I like it Tom, looks good in silver. I'm interested to see what you do with the raised panel lines.

I did a very "dry" drybrush job on the F-5. I want a bit of combat dirt on the plane, so it looks like it flew a few missions. It came out okay. I am pleased with the results with relation to the time I put into the build.

I have one of the Falcon Models T-38s (trainer version of the F-5 - or so I believe) and really like how the aircraft looks. They are very small and shark-like don't you think? Nice build Tom. Very Happy

Thanks, PW. The same company, Starfix, makes the trainer version too. Aside from the crappy decals, they are pretty decent kits. I built the Zero they make too. Fun, simple kits.

In the hands of someone like Migrant, they have infinite possibilities!
