This started out as a basic, straightforward build, but turned into quite the project. Originally tooled in 1965 it's one of Airfix's really early WW1 models. The fuselage as kitted consisted of a pilot’s bench, a pilot and a standing gunner who looks like he’s taking a call on his cell.

I started adding some scratch built details using the Windsock book as reference, and it just kept expanding. I built an engine and then decided to accurize the tail planes as well.

Finally, having added all the innards I thought I should cut open a fuselage half to show it all off.

Breathtaking. I could look at models like this for hours.

Me Too! I just love this one. What an incredible effort with lots of painstaking work. The result is spectacular and is a joy to look at for hours.

I have this kit, but whenever I get around to building it, it won't look anything like this!

Wouldn't the pilot and gunner fall out of the big hole in the side, when the plane was flying?

Seriously, nice cutaway work. Taking a prehistoric model and turning it into a gem. Cool!

I remember that kit when it came out and I built it but even with the rear view rose tinted glasses it didn't look anything near as good as that.Smile

Superb.

I received this kit as a gift from a former forum member a couple of months ago.  The box was open and some parts (main gear struts, wheel attachment part, clear canopy glass) were missing.

I used Migrant's beautiful build as an inspiration (and guide) and built my own model.  Where parts were missing, I had to fabricate replacements.  While nowhere near as spectacular as Migrant's build, it is good enough to put on my shelf and to share with you.
