PostSubject: Corgi "Zinc Pest" Problem Plane List   Tue May 02 2017, 08:37

I saved this list from the old forum. It is a list of Corgi planes that had zinc pest issues. Zinc Pest is a situation where the zinc alloy used to cast the models, was contaminated and results in eventual decay of the metal, destroying the plane.

The main discussion was about 1/72 Lancasters, but the second part of the list has a number of different models in various scales noted to suffer from Zinc Pest.

Lemmings418 provided the bulk of the information....

Lancasters known to be affected:

The Mynarski Lanc (AA36205)

The Gibson SnS Lanc (AA32612)

The Nettleton Lanc (AA36203)

Corgi Aviation Models known to have some degree of zinc pest reported, in order of release:

- 1/144 MATS Connie: Jul. 1999 (AA47509)
- 1/144 'Raspberry-ripple' Comet: Apr. 2001 (AA31401)
- 1/144 BAF Viscount: May 2001 (AA30503)
- 1/144 BA 707: Jul. 2001 (AA32903)
- The Nettleton Lanc: Aug. 2001 (AA32603)
- Hawker Hunter: Aug. 2001 (AA32703)
- Tornado: Sep. 2001 (AA33601)
- The 111 Sqn Lightning: Jul. 2002 (AA32305)
- The Presidential Sea King: Sep. 2002 (AA33403)
- The Mynarski Lanc VR•A: Oct 2002 (AA32605)
- The Gibson SnS Lanc: Mar. 2007 (AA32612

I had a 1/72 Mynarski VR-A Lancaster I purchased new from a well known dealer. Over a period of about five years, it fell apart, mainly the wing structures and the paint blistered all over the model.

Not every one of the planes in the series listed above were effected, but enough were to warrant listing them here.

Use caution when buying used or new planes shown on the list. Hornby, now the parent owner of Corgi, refuses to make good on faulty, defective products made by a predecessor company.

You can add the Corgi Westland Sea King helicopter (AA33404) to your list.

I finally got a mint model on Ebay and, the first time I tried to attach the rotor blades to the rotor head (?), the attachment points broke off. I own like 20 Corgi helicopters and I've never had this problem with any before or since.

Now it is a worthless yellow door-stop. No really awful

The rotor hub broke? That stinks! I have one Sea King, the Apollo 11 set, and I have not had it out of my display case in years. I have to check it now.

I know your pain....but Corgi(Hornsby) doesn't care... Mad
