I built this plane a couple years ago. Typical Italeri kit with good fitting pieces and decent decals. I tried to emulate the various metal panel shades with this model. A decent kit with lots of potential in the hands of a better modeler than I....

A nuke carrier for the SAC/USAF...

Tom

I'm surprised no-one's released a new-tool version of the B-58. It's such an iconic aircraft and the Italeri kit's a bit long-in-the-tooth now, although you wouldn't know it looking at your build Tom. The different panel shading worked out great.

Thanks Mike. A new B-58 would be nice. I built the Lindburg version too...1/64 scale with working landing gear and opening hatches...from the 60's I bet.

It isn't a huge plane, but not too big to remake. I am surprised it never came out in 1/144 scale.

I spray painted the base silver on this plane. I masked and hand brush painted the various panels. Next time I will use an airbrush.

This one hangs from the ceiling too!

Tom

That is such a nice plane and you did a great job modeling it. Very Happy

I think you may have, but since I don't recall for sure I will ask. Have you ever posted a pic of your ceiling-borne models?

Thanks PW. Perhaps, in the old forum, I had a shot of the thickly populated ceiling. I will take another and post it... Very Happy

Academy did release one in 1/144. Nice kit too, but hard to find these days.

Ahh...never noticed them in the Squadron catalog...older kits I guess. eBay has two but the $30-$40 range seems a bit much.

Something to look for in the future...

Very nice build.

One of my favourite aircraft ever, full of spectacular purpose.

I continue to dream and hope a brave manufacturer gives this a type a go in 1:72 one day. Forlorn hope perhaps,....but gee, it would be a speccy release.

How about in diecast? They make planes as big or bigger now. A B-58 would make for a substantial model!

Words...escape me, Tom. I am awestruck. blown away There are so many, and they are so cool. Wow. The sign above the door "Watch your step," should be the last thing you worry about. A more appropriate sign should be there saying "Duck!" Wink Very Happy

Ahh, you noticed. I also have scads of Railroad collectibles mixed in. The watch your step sign came off a 1936 Pullman that was being scrapped some 30 years ago.

The planes are actually hung where you can't walk, like over tables and seats with appropriate head room.

I have plans on putting a display counter at one end of the room with planes inside and the big stuff parked on top...

Very cool stuff indeed. Cool About fifteen years ago I got to ride on a special train operated by the Union Pacific Railroad. It was a two-hour commemorative ride that I got through my job and it was awesome! I know nothing about trains, but this was a 1930's steam locomotive and we rode in wonderful Pullman cars. If train travel were like that I would do so all the time. What a Face One other memory, that still tickles me, is as we rode across the Yolo Bypass near Sacramento, a Stearman biplane cropduster flew alongside my car. We were on an elevated railway so the plane was level with the car's windows. I felt I could have reached through the window and grabbed the wing he was so close. I waved at the pilot and he gave me a nod and wave back as he pulled up.

Cool. The UP does have quite a steam program, running restored locomotives. I have seen rail excursions chased by helicopters, but never a Stearman!
