Part of the Bi planes & Tri planes fly in trip was a visit to this small city run museum in Norfolk. Just off the main highway with a ramp like a rest stop. Easy in and out. It's city run so the funding seems to not allow for maintenance of some of the out door exhibits as one would like to see but then any artifacts outside will suffer from the elements. The indoor portion is very nice and well maintained but the tidal creek running to the bay can flood them out. Norfolk played a big part in the space race and this museum is dedicated to much of this. There is a time capsule buried on the site to be opened in the 2060's. The museum has some exhibits related to the Mercury space program as well as Nike and Jupiter Missiles.

A very nice stop before, between or after any larger more time consuming exhibits as you manage your stay in the area. The outdoor portion is always accessible at all hours. I'm happy to see the open access has not lead to things being vandalized. It is free and manned like all these museums by dedicated volunteers.

If you score a victory but lose your wingman, you lost the battle.
