JC Wings
Air Canada Airbus A340-500
1/200 Scale with Stand

The A340-500 was introduced as the world's longest-range commercial airliner. It first flew on 11 February 2002, and was certified on 3 December 2002. Air Canada was supposed to be the launch customer, but filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2003, delaying delivery to March. The A340-500 can fly 313 passengers in a three-class cabin layout over 8650 nm. Compared with the A340-300, the -500 features a 14.1 ft fuselage stretch, an enlarged wing, significant increase in fuel capacity (around 50% over the -300), slightly higher cruising speed, a larger horizontal stabilizer and a larger vertical tailplane. The A340-500 is powered by four 54,000 lb thrust Rolls-Royce Trent 553 turbofans.  It was the world's longest-range commercial airliner until the introduction of its direct rival, Boeing 777-200LR, in February 2006.  Air Canada has since retired its' two A340-500s and replaced them with six Boeing 777-233LRs.

Picked this model up today at Flight City Vancouver's Boxing Day sale.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that the model is correctly painted white and not blue which was how the model was announced.  Both of Air Canada's A340-500s were never painted blue - only the tail was updated with the new logo - the fuselage remained white.

Here's a few quick photos.  By the way this is my first model with magnetic gear - works great!  Nice to see that JC Wings included the four wheel centre main gear bogie which replaced the two wheel bogie to support the higher weights of the A340-500.

Checked my logbook and I flew FIN# 952 on two separate occasions in 2005 on the YYZ-HKG route (routed over the pole and was a 16 hour long flight).
